Stinky Cheese

And no I'm not just talking about Tristan's diapers, which by the way have gone from newborn to nasty in a matter of days.  Gone are the simple odorless diapers, Tristan is turning into a man.  You know those AFV clips and youtube videos of parents gagging and vomitting during a diaper change?  Well, we thought Tristan was just having rancid gas, which is nothing new.  Turns out he had cooked up a whopper…..our whole room was one giant cloud of stink, and it took all my will power to change him.  Nick even had to shove toilet paper up his nose to mask the smell.

Anyhoo!  Yesterday, we decided to be bold and made some zucchini crab cakes and cream of zucchini soup (can you tell we had a lot of zucchini?).  And hmm, the crab cakes were amazing, even though they didn't have any crab, but the soup repulsed me.  It smells fabulous until the last ingredient: Gorgonzola cheese.  Now, I like cheese, but I make it a point to stay away from things that are rotting.  This cheese was coated in fungus, which I guess, is part of it's charm and appeal.  Apparently I'm not a cheese conosouir, because we added it, and ohhhh man!  It smelled soo bad!  But I figured, hey, it's probably going to taste fine.  So I blended some up, took a sip, and……bluh!  It was yucky.  Nick and Will loved it though.

I just had myself a crab cake.  It's basically shredded zucchini, onion, breadcrumbs, old bay spice and egg all mixed up.  Then you make little cakes, dredge in flour and fry in veggie oil.  MMMMMM, those were yummy.  I had been feeling Nick deprived, so he stayed home with me yesterday.  Well, it's partially my fault.  You see, he woke up late and asked me to take him to class.  So in a hurry, we ran out the front door, got down to the car, and realized we didn't have the keys.  Oops.  It was raining and about 40 degrees out, so I grumbled, put some socks on Tristan's hands and bundled him up even tighter in his blanket.  Nick called Will to come let us in, and we sat on the porch to wait.  When we got inside a half hour later, we tried looking for the keys, and couldn't find them.   Then Nick said, did you look in the diaper bag?  And uh, well, I'm embarrassed to say…..we had the keys the whole time.  Shhhhhh, don't tell Will.

Nick ended up staying home after that, and we watched hulu, played around with Tristan, made food, and went grocery shopping to get the ingredients for our stinky soup.  I didn't like it, but he sure did.

Hopefully, the weather will improve a tad so we can enjoy the fall.  And we're going to have a fun Saturday together, doing what?  I'm not sure yet.  So far the three of us have been sleeping in.  And Tristan just went back to sleep, so I'm going to go join them.
