Helmet head

My little man had kind of a rough morning.   First off he stayed up till 2, silly kid.  Then we had to go in for his appointment to get his helmet fitted.  It took us about 2 hours because the orthodic doctor Russ had to keep sanding and shaving and heating and blowing out parts of the helmet to make sure we got a perfect fit.  Halfway through Tristan got super mad because he was hungry, so while Russ was sanding down the forehead piece, I fed Tristan and he fell asleep.  Then Russ came back, we tried it on again, all the while Tristan stayed asleep which was amazing, and then he went back to sand it one more time.  It looks great, you can see through the helmet where his head is going to grow into and where it's going to be restricted.  He has to wear it 23 hours a day, getting a one hour break to bathe, for 3 months.  By then his head should be hard enough that sleeping on one side won't affect the shape. But also by then we hope that his neck will be strong enough that he won't be pulling to the one side anymore.  Well, we'll see how it goes.  Right now I'm pretty optomistic about everything.  He's being such a good sport too.  Russ said it's very rare that a baby won't fight and scream while getting the helmet fitted.  Tristan sat there well behaved and smiley.  I really have a great little boy.

While waiting for Russ, Tristan found another wall

He's so funny when he gets caught

So tired after being messed with

Helmet head!

And he's out

This is why his finding the wall was funny, he's discovered textures and colors.  While we were at church, he kept reaching for the brick wall behind us, then scratching on it with his fingers.  Then when we were waiting for Nick, he rolled over to face the back of the couch and scratched on that.  Then last night the three of us were laying on the bed and Tristan started grabbing and scratching my arm, then he would roll over and do the same thing to Nick.  It's way super cute, funny little guy.

Oh, and two more funny, well one's not so funny, stories.  Yesterday, Nick came home for a little bit to work on some school things on our computer.  Later in the afternoon he had to go back to school.  Tristan and I always watch his drive away from the window.  We saw him get down to the light at the end of the street and waited for him to make a left hand turn.  The light turned green and after a good three seconds, Nick started into the intersection.  The all of a sudden out of nowhere, this white clunker come barreling through the red light at 50 miles an hour, missing Nick by like a foot.  And the guy honked at Nick!  Can you say scary?  I almost ran out the door and down the street to make sure he was ok, but he drove off before I could.  Man, that was a close call.  What was that guy thinking???  Anyhoo, I'm glad Nick's ok.  And then last night, it was so warm, we decided to leave our bedroom door open so the cool air from the open windows in the livingroom would make it to us (Provo City increased their electricity rates by 14.7 %….meaning we are going to be living in the heat and dark until we move).  Halfway through the night I realized we had a little visitor.  Suki had curled up on my side of the bed, and well, if you know Suki, she isn't dainty.  So she had pushed me up and had taken up the bottom half of the bed.  Then of course, Tristan joined us at 6 AM, so there we were, all four of us, squashed up together in the bed.  Haha and I love it.
